With a body of work comprising portraits, still life’s, landscapes and genre painting—the common thread running through my work is the beauty that surrounds us in everyday life.

An employment history in the largely visual arena of marketing and design as an Illustrator, Graphic Designer and advertising Art Director has influenced my approach to the portrayal of my subject matter. The result is a body of work painted in a realist style with a designer’s eye, placing great emphasis on composition and colour balance.

Portraiture has always held a fascination for me—this subject matter honed my skills and eye from a very early age. My portraits are largely influenced by fashion photography, often using pattern and textiles as design elements. I prefer an intimate depiction of the sitter, framing only the face or head and shoulders.

A yearning to paint the Australian rural landscape crept up on me, corresponding with a desire to move away from the rush of city life. The culmination is a series of genre works depicting scenes from everyday life set in the beauty of the Australian rural landscape.

Studying the unique lives of the people who live on the land, including the close bonds that they can have with animals has uncovered a narrative which has become a vehicle to explore my fascination with the journey of the soul.
